What safeguards are in place to make sure that you are operating on the correct patient and performing the correct surgery? PDF Print E-mail

The efforts by our operating room team members at Mary Washington Hospital, Stafford Hospital and Fredericksburg Ambulatory Surgery Center to address and prevent wrong-site surgery have resulted in the development of a surgical verification checklist, which has been adopted facility wide that required staff to ensure that all surgical procedures are done on the right patient and at the right location, and that the correct procedure is performed by the correct surgeon. This checklist is reviewed multiple times before your surgery actually begins. We review the checklist in our same day surgery or the preoperative areas, before we start to put you to sleep and again just before your surgeon makes his or her incision.
