How will you know if I am having pain? PDF Print E-mail

Your body has reliable known responses to pain that are monitored under anesthesia and allow your anesthesiologist to determine your level of discomfort even without verbal communication. Some of your body’s responses to pain include an increase in heart rate or blood pressure, increase in breathing rate and depth, dilation of your pupils, and sweating. Based on the responses, your anesthesiologist will tailor the pain medication to ensure you are comfortable when you wake up.
