Certain dietary supplements and herbal medications are known to increase the likelihood of complications during anesthesia. Some supplements may prolong the effects of anesthesia while others may increase the risks of bleeding or affect your blood pressure Be certain to list all of the substances that you are taking on the anesthesia pre-operative evaluation including natural remedies and dietary supplements. If you have any questions regarding specific medications, contact your surgeon’s office or the hospital’s pre-operative clinic.
