Why do you want to know about drinking, smoking and street drugs use? PDF Print E-mail

Use of alcohol, tobacco and street drugs can impact your body’s response to the anesthesia you are given during the surgery just like prescription drugs. Providing this information to your anesthesiologist pre-operatively allows the correct adjustments to be made in your anesthetic plan to help avoid unnecessary complications during your surgery. AA of VA knows that occasionally our patients are reluctant to discuss these things, but your anesthesia providers keep these discussions entirely confidential. Our interest is to learn enough about you to deliver the safest anesthesia possible.
