Dr Kenneth Papier received his first doctorate degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1984. He completed his Optometry Internship on the Sioux Indian Reservation in Rosebud SD, and then received a direct Officer Commission into the US Air Force as an Active Duty Optometrist. Dr Papier then received his Medical Degree from the University of North Texas in 1991 on a full 4 year USAF National Health Professions Scholarship Program. Dr Papier performed his post-graduate medical training at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio in General Surgery form 1991-1992, Anesthesiology from 1992-1995, and then Critical Care Medicine from 1995-1996. Dr Papier also received specialized training and certification as a Flight Surgeon, as well as advanced qualifications in Hyperbaric Medicine, Global Medicine, and Critical Care Air Transport Medicine. His military career includes Airborne, Air Assault, and Expert Field medical badge training, as well as diverse staff positions: Anesthesiology Chief Resident, Co-Director of the USAF Surgical ICU in San Antonio, the ACGME Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program Director for the US Air Force, and Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Texas in San Antonio. Dr Papier became a Staff Anesthesiologist with FAA, now AA of VA, in June 2000; he is Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, and remains an active reservist in the US Air Force Reserves. Dr Papier currently serves as the Division Chief overseeing all of the physicians in the Anesthesia, Radiology, Pathology, and Emergency Medicine Departments at Mary Washington Hospital.
