Dr. Michielson is a native Virginian with strong ties to the Commonwealth. He attended Old Dominion University on a full academic scholarship, graduating with honors in 1987. Dr. Michielson received his M.D. in 1992 from the Medical College of Virginia, graduating in the top 1/5 of his class. He then remained at the Medical College of Virginia for his internship and residency. In 1995, he was named chief resident of the department of anesthesia and ultimately received the Dripps award as the outstanding resident in his class. His training includes a subspecialty emphasis in cardiac anesthesia with formal instruction in transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). In 1998, he joined FAA now AAofVA,  and has since served as chairman of the department of anesthesia and as the medical director of the Fredericksburg Ambulatory Surgery Center. He is board certified in anesthesiology.
